Upcoming Events

The 2018 AGM will be held on June 2 in the Dr. Richard Fagan Theatre and atrium of the of the Memorial University Medicine School, Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s. The President’s Dinner will be held at The Rooms.  


Members are invited to attend our upcoming Annual General Meeting on June 2, 2018, to debate resolutions and help the Association set policy that will shape the future direction for the NLMA. The meeting will be held in the Dr. Richard Fagan Theatre (1m101) in the Faculty of Medicine at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John’s. This year, the AGM will feature interactive presentations on topics of interest, including an update on the process for transitioning hospital services to private clinics; a presentation on regional and community best practices for facilitating physician work/life balance; a panel discussion on the rollout of Family Practice Networks; and, an update on the HEALTHeNL onboarding requirement of the Prescription Monitoring Act. The Business Meeting will feature a keynote address from Dr. Claudia Sarbu on Public Health in NL and Syphilis the Great Imitator in a Modern Society. Members will also be updated on the financial health of the organization, as well as an update on negotiations. A preliminary AGM program is included with this letter.


President’s Dinner

Following the business session, we will hold our annual President’s Dinner at The Rooms to install incoming NLMA President Dr. Tracey Bridger. The event will include a keynote address from Dr. Laurent Marcoux, President of the Canadian Medical Association. The dinner will also feature presentations of the NLMA and CMA Honorary Life Awards. This year, the NLMA is honouring Dr. Austin Richard (Rick) Cooper, Dr. Michael Jong, and 2017 recipient Dr. Chaker Hobeika. CMA Honorary Life Awards will be presented to Dr. Ivan Roy Woolfrey and Dr. Gregory Francis Russell. Cocktails begin at 7 p.m.


Register and Attend

Delegates can register online for both the AGM Business Meeting and the President’s Dinner at Delegates must pre-register for the Business Meeting to receive lunch (at no cost) at the AGM Business Meeting. Registration is not required to attend the Business Meeting, but only those who pre-register will receive lunch. Also, to facilitate the ordering of food you must pre-register for the President’s Dinner. Tickets to the President’s Dinner will not be sold at the door. The early bird registration date is May 18. The deadline to purchase tickets for the President’s Dinner is 5 p.m., Thursday, May 24, 2018. President’s Dinner no-shows will be billed unless we receive notice of cancellation by 5 p.m., Thursday, May 24.
