What do Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood and Kids Eat Smart Foundation Newfoundland and Labrador have in common? The short answer is Alan Doyle. The lead singer for Great Big Sea hit the big screen as one of Robin Hood’s merry men last spring, and on November 12, Doyle will bring a bit of Robin Hood’s magic to the Kids Eat Smart Foundation Gala fundraiser ‘An Evening in Sheraton Forest’.

The longer answer is that both Kids Eat Smart Foundation and Robin Hood demonstrate how a community that pulls together makes a positive difference in the lives of its children. Kids Eat Smart Executive Director Daphne LeDrew says: “Child nutrition is one of the most important issues facing our population now. Kids Eat Smart Foundation is working ensure that children attend school well-nourished to be ready to learn. Our annual gala fundraiser is dedicated to raising awareness about the cause, and raising funds that will enable children and youth to have a healthy breakfast. With Alan Doyle at the fore, ‘An Evening in Sheraton Forest’ pulls together an exceptional theme that will raise funds for an exceptionally important cause.”

In addition to special guest Alan Doyle, ‘An Evening in Sheraton Forest’ features CBC’s Jonathan Crowe as emcee, live auctioneering by Blair Loveless of Fitzpatrick’s, and includes a three-course medieval feast, silent auction, games and more.

Kids Eat Smart Foundation NL is the registered charity behind the province’s 202 Kids Eat Smart Nutrition Clubs. On school days, volunteers cut fruit, pour milk and make toast for the almost 20,000 children and youth who participate in the Clubs on a regular basis.

The work of the Foundation has been recognized by the Canadian Medical Association. In 2007, Kids Eat Smart Foundation was the proud recipient of the national Award for Excellence in Health Promotion.

Tickets are available by calling (877) 722-1996, 722-1996 or by e-mail. For more information visit the Kids East Smart website  or Facebook page.
