The Dr. Phyllis H. Madryga Scholarship is presented each year to a student from rural Newfoundland and Labrador in the final year of medical school with plans to practice rural medicine.

During the recent Memorial University Faculty of Medicine Class of 2009 graduation celebration NLMA President Dr. Elizabeth Callahan presented Dr. Susan Avery of Stephenville with the Dr. Phyllis H. Madryga Scholarship. This award is presented each year to a student from rural Newfoundland and Labrador in the final year of medical school with plans to practice rural medicine. Academic achievement, strong personal values and leadership within the Faculty of Medicine are also considered.
