On November 1, the Health Council of Canada launched its new Health Innovation Portal, a website that houses innovative health care practices, policies, programs and services from across Canada, which can be adopted throughout various jurisdictions. It includes a searchable database of more than 240 innovative practices, information for identifying and sharing health innovations, and information on the Health Council’s Health Innovation Challenge for students.

“We developed the Health Innovation Portal with health care managers and practitioners, policy makers, and researchers in mind,” said John G. Abbott, CEO of the Health Council of Canada.

“We want to help Canada’s health care leaders find programs and practices that are working across the country from a variety of health care themes, so they can learn from them and put them into practice within their own areas.”

The Health Innovation Portal also includes blogs on health innovation and access to the Health Council’s Innovative Practices Evaluation Framework, which identifies emerging, promising and leading practices in Canadian health care. The site includes an explanation of the evaluation criteria and a rating guide used to categorize practices.

To learn more about the Health Innovation Portal or to submit an innovative health care practice, program, service or policy, visit the Health Innovation Portal. Users can also visit the Health Council of Canada’s YouTube channel to watch the instructional video on how to navigate the portal.
