NLMA Membership Administration
Online renewal is ONLY available for Full, Student, Resident, Retired, and Non-Resident categories paying by credit card (VISA, MasterCard); other categories, those receiving discounted or complimentary NLMA or CMA membership, please refer to your renewal (e-mailed or postal mailed according to your preference).
Why do you need to renew with the NLMA? As a physician licensed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (Full or Provisional category), membership in the NLMA is required as a condition of the Medical Act. To avoid a late payment charge or potential disruptions in your license, please renew by February 15, 2019.
Why do you need to renew with the NLMA? Membership in the NLMA is required to access the benefits and services of the NLMA and its partners (Canadian Medical Association, OMA Insurance, TD Insurance, etc.). To avoid disruption in your benefits, please renew by February 15, 2019. If you are now licensed by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Newfoundland and Labrador (Full or Provisional category), membership in the NLMA is required as a condition of the Medical Act.
Should you also join the CMA? The NLMA encourages you to join the Canadian Medical Association (CMA). CMA membership provides you with access to valuable products and services carefully chosen to help you through medical school and residency and on into practice and beyond. The CMA is also your voice at the national level advocating for innovation in the healthcare system and policies that support a healthy population and a vibrant medical profession. See also Why CMA? section.
Is my CMA membership now free? Membership in the CMA is now complimentary for students, residents and retired physicians; the membership fee for other categories has been reduced. However, even if your CMA membership is complimentary, you must still choose to add it when renewing. Note, there is no change in fees for NLMA membership.
First year in practice? If 2019 is your first full calendar year in practice, the CMA will discount their portion of your fee by 50 percent, a gesture to acknowledge and assist you in your transition from residency into practice. To take advantage of this discount, you must contact the NLMA (see below). Online renewal does not offer this discount.
Is there a part-time category? No, because of the challenge in defining and monitoring part-time status, a part-time category is not offered.
How do I update my membership information? In the fall, you will receive a notice inviting you to review your membership information. However, you are encouraged to notify the NLMA throughout the year of any changes as they occur.
How long do I have to request a refund? Refunds must be requested within six weeks of your change in membership status. For example, within six weeks of leaving the province or going on maternity/parental leave.
