Program recognizes top referring physicians
Eastport family physician Dr. Dattu Patil (centre) was recognized recently as the top referring physician to the Smokers’ Helpline. NLMA President Dr. Andrew Major and Smokers’ Helpline Coordinator Niki George took part in the certificate presentation.
The NLMA and the Newfoundland and Labrador Lung Association recently recognized the top referring physicians to the Smokers’ Helpline.

     The Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association and the Newfoundland and Labrador Lung Association recently recognized the top referring physicians to the Smokers’ Helpline.
     Dr. Dattu Patil, a family physician at the Eastport Medical Clinic, was the top referring physician in the first six months of the NLMA-Smokers’ Helpline program. Dr. Patil referred more than 50 patients for smoking cessation counseling.
     Dr. Punnaran Jacob, a family physician at the Deer Lake Medical Clinic, and Dr. D.W. Ingram, an internal medicine specialist at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital in St. John’s, were also recognized for their efforts to help patients quit smoking by referring them for counseling with the Smokers’ Helpline.
